San Juan Island Bike Routes
Below are some of the more popular routes on San Juan Island. Choose from one of the bike routes or combine them to extend your adventure.
Pear Point Loop
Perfect beginner route with minimal traffic.
This is a perfect route for those looking for a nice country ride or short on time. Once out of town there is little to no traffic. The route passes by Jackson Beach, a great location for lunch or simply enjoying the beach.
Roche Harbor Route
Minimal hills and a good shoulder for riding.
This is a destination route to Roche Harbor. This is a popular route for those looking for a nice ride to get lunch at Roche Harbor and explore the docks. The map shows a one-way route from Friday Harbor to Roche Harbor. Round Trip Mileage: 20.5
Lime Kiln State Park
Not an advanced ride but more hills.
One of the most popular destination routes on the island. Pack a lunch and head out to Lime Kiln State Park for hiking and keeping an eye out for whales. This route also passes by the West Side Preserve where you will enjoy amazing views and picnic areas. Lime Kiln State Park is known as one of the best regions on the island to see orcas from shore. The route below shows one-way travel from Friday Harbor to the State Park. Round Trip Mileage: 18
American Camp National Park / South Beach
Not an advanced ride but more hills.
One of my favorite routes to the south end of San Juan Island. Pack your lunch and head out to American Camp where you will find miles of hiking and amazing views of the Olympic Mountains. Visit South Beach, the largest public beach on San Juan Island. The route below shows one-way travel from Friday Harbor to Amercian Camp and the south end of San Juan Island. Round Trip Mileage: 20.5
Cattle Point – False Bay Loop
Not an advanced ride but more hills.
This is one of my personal favorites. The route will take you to the south end to visit American Camp and South Beach, but the added bonus is False Bay Road on your return to town. False Bay Road is a beautiful country road with stunning views. I recommend this route to everyone renting bikes.
Loop Option 1
More advanced but the determined novice will have no problem.
This is a popular option that will take you past many popular destinations. It’s a pretty ambitious route with plenty of hills to climb. The route passes by Roche Harbor, San Juan County Park, Lime Kiln State Park, Lavender Farm and more. If you are looking for a full day of riding and exploring, this is a great option.
