San Juan Island Biking Information

An Introduction to Exploring San Juan Island by Bicycle

San Juan Island is a very popular cycling destination. We can help set up the perfect route and bike rental for your visit.

Our roads wind through open valleys, wooded hills, and stunning shorelines, with plenty of places to stop and enjoy the views. Beginning at our shop in downtown Friday Harbor, there are several loops of varying lengths along our island’s National Scenic Byway that pass by popular island destinations.

A ride to the west side of the island takes visitors by the Pelindaba Lavender Farm, Lime Kiln State Park, and San Juan County Park. Routes to the west side cover part of an area known as the “Whale Trail” which is one of the best areas in the world to see killer whales from the shoreline.

To explore American Camp National Park, Cattle Point Lighthouse, and South Beach, riders will take Cattle Point Road. This road boasts some of the most epic views of both the Olympic and Cascade Mountains. It is also an excellent route for those wanting to have a picnic lunch and enjoy a hike to one of the area’s many pocket beaches.

Looking for more mileage and adventure? We can set you up with a great circumnavigation loop or even a ride on one of our other ferry-accessible islands Orcas and Lopez.
