Washington State Ferry
The ferry terminal located in Anacortes Washington is the departure point for San Juan Island.
Leaving from Seattle?
If you are driving from Seattle we recommend you allow 2.5 hours to arrive at the ferry terminal. This will allow enough time to arrive and pass through ferry lines. Traffic along I-5 can be very congested leaving Seattle, picking an off hour time to travel will ease the traffic issues.
Bringing a car or walking on?
If you plan to bring your car to the island you will need to make a reservation via the Washington State Ferry website. If you do not have a reservation you can arrive and wait stand-by. If you plan on parking in Anacortes at the Ferry Terminal there will be a parking fee but walking on to the ferry is much easier and does NOT require a reservation.
Should I bring a car?
If you plan on being on the island for more than a day, having your car can be nice. Most destinations are far from town and will require some form of transportation. If you are just coming over for the day or an overnight, then walking on is much easier. Do note there is plenty of transportation for hire on San Juan Island. Taxi’s, Car Rentals, Scooter Rentals and Bike Rentals are available downtown.
Please visit the Washington State Ferry Website for the up-to-date schedule information.

Kenmore Air
Kenmore offers several flights a day from the Seattle area. You can fly via a wheeled aircraft or a seaplane. This is by far the fastest way to arrive on the island. Flight times range from 35 to 45 minutes. If you are arriving at SeaTac, Kenmore offers transfers to their flight terminal at Boeing Field. Beyond being the fastest way to get to San Juan, it is an amazingly scenic flight. The airport in Friday Harbor is located just outside of town. Not a short walk, but completely doable. Taxis can provide transportation from the airport. Contact your hotel and see if they have a courtesy van that can pick you up.
Please visit the Kenmore Air website for details.
Shuttles from Seattle Airport
If you are flying into Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SETAC), there are a couple of shuttle options to get to the ferry terminal in Anacortes, Washington.
Bellair Islander Bus Charters
Bellair Islander Bus Charters have multiple charters scheduled all day and into the evening. Reservations can be made online at their website. The shuttle is not the fastest route to San Juan but it is a very reliable way to get here. You will have to make one transfer in Burlington Washington to a small bus for the final leg to the ferry terminal.
Please visit the Bellair Islander Charter Bus website for scheduling and details.
Island Airporter
Island Airporter is a local business that makes the transit from San Juan Island to SEATAC daily. The bonus of the Island Airporter is it has priority loading on the Washington State Ferry to and from Anacortes Washington. The ferry ride is included in the price of the transit fare. This is a slightly faster transit than Bellair.
